Four Cozy Mystery Series For Herbal Remedy Lovers

by Esme Addison

As the author of the Enchanted Bay Mystery series, I have always been fascinated by the magic and healing properties of herbs and plants.

There’s something incredibly cozy about curling up with a good mystery that weaves together the intrigue of a whodunit with the charm of herbal remedies and apothecaries.

In my own writing, I love exploring how these natural elements can add depth and a touch of enchantment to the story. Today, I want to share with you three cozy mysteries that are perfect for fans of herbs, herbal remedies, and the timeless allure of apothecaries.

Whether you’re a seasoned herb enthusiast or just curious about the world of natural healing, these books are sure to provide a delightful escape into a world where plants and mystery entwine in the most intriguing ways.

A Charming Crime by Tonya Kappes (A Magical Cures Mystery)

June Heal has always believed in the power of homeopathic remedies to heal the body and mind. So when she decides to relocate her shop, A Dose of Darla, from the flea market booth in her hometown to the quaint and cozy town of Whispering Falls, Kentucky, she’s excited to share her natural cures with a new community.

But June’s fairy god cat, who’s always been her lucky charm, may not be enough to keep her out of trouble when a member of the community is found murdered and June becomes the number one suspect. With the help of her new friends and her belief in the power of healing, June sets out to clear her name and uncover the truth about the mysterious murder.

Death Drops (A Natural Remedies Mystery)

Dr. Willow McQuade, ND, a twenty-eight-year-old doctor specializing in natural remedies, has decided to take sabbatical and visit her Aunt Claire, the owner of Nature’s Way Market and Cafe in idyllic Greenport, Long Island. The idea of rest and relaxation is quickly forgotten when Willow arrives from a morning meditative walk to discover her Aunt Claire dead in the store, a strange almond-like smell emanating from her mouth and a bottle of flower essences by her side.

Despite her Zen nature and penchant for yoga, Aunt Claire had a knack for getting into confrontations with folks. An activist, she held weekly meetings for different causes every week in the store. The police want to believe the death is accidental—but Willow thinks she may have been poisoned.

Things get worse when Aunt Claire’s valuable recipe for a new natural age-defying formula, Fresh Face, is stolen during a store break-in, and an attempt is made on Willow’s life. Desperate for a way out of the mess, she turns to a handsome young cop Jackson Spade. Will they be able to solve the case…the natural way?

A Spell For Trouble by Esme Addison (An Enchanted Bay Mystery)

Aleksandra Daniels hasn’t set foot in the quiet seaside town of Bellamy Bay, North Carolina in over twenty years. Ever since her mother’s tragic death, her father has mysteriously forbidden her from visiting her aunt and cousins. But on a whim, Alex accepts an invitation to visit her estranged relatives and to help them in their family business: an herbal apothecary known for its remarkably potent teas, salves, and folk remedies.

Bellamy Bay doesn’t look like trouble, but this is a town that harbors dark secrets. Alex discovers that her own family is at the center of salacious town gossip, and that they are rumored to be magical healers descended from mermaids. She brushes this off as nonsense until a local is poisoned and her aunt Lidia is arrested for the crime. Alex is certain Lidia is being framed, and she resolves to find out why.

Alex’s investigation unearths stories that some have gone to desperate lengths to conceal: forbidden affairs, family rivalries, and the truth about Alex’s own ancestry. And when the case turns deadly, Alex learns that not only are these secrets worth hiding, but they may even be worth killing for.

There are currently two books in the series, with the third installment publishing in September 2025.

And though she finds lots of friendly faces, China is sure that one of them hides the heart of a killer.
