Three Southern Lifestyle Podcasts You Should Be Listening To Right Now

Podcasts are everywhere. Aren’t they great? And there’s something for everyone, including waxing poetic about the south. That’s one of our favorite topics if you can’t tell.

And so, we found some of the best podcasts around that discuss some of our favorite subjects: southern food, southern culture, entrepreneurs living and working in the south, those traditions that make us think of childhood and memaws and all that is funny about the south.

Who: The Steel Magnolias are sisters, Lainie Stubblefield and Laura Beth Peters

What: The down-home folksy duo talks about southern culture. Some of our favorite episodes provided a 101 on Bourbon, a breakdown on what southerners mean when they say southern stuff, the Kentucky Derby and Easter in the south.

Where: Franklin, Tennessee

The vibe: Listening to these sisters is like sitting on your porch at 6 pm on a summer day, shoes off, crickets chirping, drink in hand.

Who: Two full-time mothers with interesting friends, modern ideas and lots to talk about. You may recognize Sara as the winner of ABC’s Season 8 of The Bachelor

What: This fun talkative duo interviews southern entrepreneurs, like celebrity chef, Gina Neeley, one of the host’s brothers, the country singers The Brother Hunt, the Magnolia Mamas and Amanda Wilbanks, the owner of Southern Baked Pie. They take a deep dive into their backstories, discover how they became successful and what’s next on their horizon.

Where: Nashville, Tennessee

The vibe: Put on your workout clothes, slip your earbuds in and speed walk in the park as you listen to this upbeat duo share inspirational stories of southern entrepreneurs.

Southern Fork

Who: Host, Stephanie Burt is a freelance food writer for websites like Thrillist and magazines like Saveur and Traveler.

What: Stephanie takes listeners behind the scenes of some of the south’s most interesting restaurants, breweries, and bars, and talks to food writers, editors, farmers and dairy owners. Some of our favorite episodes included Nashville’s Biscuit Love, Cary NC’s La Farm,  and Rembert, SC’s Old McCaskill’s Farm.

Where: Charleston, SC

The vibe: Grab your pencil and pen as Stephanie takes you to school and behind the scenes of the food and beverage industry. Very interesting – you can’t help but appreciate your food and drink just a bit more after you’ve listened to one of her podcasts.
