Hallmark Halloween Movies: Three Ghostly Romances For Spooky Season
Love Halloween? How about Hallmark romances? Then we’ve got a special treat (no tricks!) for you. Three Hallmark Halloween movies with gentle thrills and ghostly chills.
by Esme Addison
If you’re a frequent reader of Due South Magazine, you probably know I looooove fall. Halloween? Not so much. I trick or treated as a child. Had fun with costumes, eating all the candy and watching Charlie Brown cartoons.
But! I am not into the more scarier themes. I do not decorate for Halloween. No skeletons, ghosts or other gory elements. This may seem odd since I write two witchy mystery series. My series are more warm and cozy in tone, and the magic is the glittery good kind of herbal magic in the Enchanted Bay Mystery Series or it’s the science-based quantum magic in An Intrigue Of Witches.
However, I do enjoy movies that evoke spooky season. You know, movies that gently transition from fall into sweater weather and then just a little thrilling. Like these three Hallmark Halloween movies movies I’m sharing with you today.
Two of the suggestions are Hallmark romances, so expect a love story that is central to the plot. And one is a mystery with an international setting. But what do they all have in common? A fun ghostly story! Grab your popcorn and keep reading. You can watch these movies on Hallmark Plus, on Amazon and on the Hallmark Channel live and on demand.
Here are my favorite three Hallmark Halloween movies with ghostly themes.
Four Enchanting TV Shows To Binge For Halloween
3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost

The Plot: The house that Anna, a new real estate agent, has listed has a spirit from the 1920s that won’t go. Even worse, the ghost is afraid she won’t be able to “pass over” unless she reconciles Anna with her ex.
Why I’m Recommending This Hallmark Halloween Movie: First of all, I enjoy both of these actors in movies so I was already interested. There’s a second chances trope. The couple is formerly engaged and navigating a friendship post-breakup. And the female protagonist, Anna has a Type A father that she’s always tried to please. There’s a nice backstory that gives this romance a bit of complexity that some Hallmark romances don’t always have.
The surprise is that the ghost is a wealthy socialite from the roaring 20’s with her own story that needs to be resolved. Expect fun 20’s galas, references to famous historical figures from the era, gorgeous clothes and a handsome historical mansion. If you love shows like Downton Abbey, you’ll appreciate this ghostly tale.
Three Magical Reads To Give You Thrills This Halloween
Haunted Wedding

The Plot: The wedding between ghost hunters Jane and Brian at a haunted inn is disrupted by Angelique – a ghost who mistakes Brian for her own dead fiancé.
Why I’m Recommending This Hallmark Halloween Movie: This movie features a fun couple who take their ghost hunting very serious. I enjoyed their occupational POV. And since they love all things ghostly, they decide to get married in a haunted mansion. They are happily surprised when the ghost, a wealthy daughter of a military officer during the American Revolutionary war informs them no one will get married in her home because she never married. Her fiance, a Scottish soldier in the American army was taken prisoner and died.
As tragic as their story is, the movie is full of fun and humor, and we get an in-depth look at Angelique’s story. Her beau gives Jamie Fraser (Outlander) vibes. If you love all things Scottish, you’ll definitely want to give this movie a chance.
Murder In G Major

The Plot: Former orchestra conductor Gethsemane Brown moves to Ireland to teach at a boarding school. After deciphering a musical message, she meets a renowned composer’s ghost who is rumored to be behind the death of his lover.
Why I’m Recommending This Hallmark Halloween Movie: So, this movie is actually based on one of my favorite cozy mystery series. I read it several years ago, and thought it would make a fantastic movie or series. In the book, the main character, an African-American classical musician is stranded in Ireland and ends up taking a job teaching music at a local school. And she moves into an adorable cottage haunted by a famous classical musician who everyone thinks killed his wife and then himself. The movie is slightly different in the set-up but does stay true to the mystery plot.
I think readers and new viewers will be pleased with this adaptation. The main character is a southerner, from Virginia. Another element I appreciate. Look for gorgeous Irish settings, heavy music themes, a school setting and fun banter between Gethsemane, the local police offer and math teacher who are vy for her attention.
Buy The Book

The book version of Murder In G Major is available in paperback, ebook and audiobook. Here’s the blurb:
With few other options, African American classical musician Gethsemane Brown accepts a less-than-ideal position turning a group of rowdy schoolboys into an award-winning orchestra.
Stranded without luggage or money in the Irish countryside, she figures any job is better than none. The perk? Housesitting a lovely cliffside cottage. The catch? The ghost of the cottage’s murdered owner haunts the place. Falsely accused of killing his wife (and himself), he begs Gethsemane to clear his name so he can rest in peace.
Gethsemane’s reluctant investigation provokes a dormant killer and she soon finds herself in grave danger. As Gethsemane races to prevent a deadly encore, will she uncover the truth or star in her own farewell performance?
