Visit one of our favorite bakeries in Fuquay-Varina in the early morning hours, and you’ll be greeted by the smells of butter, cinnamon and the tantalizing scent of rising bread. You’ll hear the sounds of the staff calling out to each other, the dull thump of hands pounding dough and the low chatter of the customers.

Stick Boy Bread Company is busy. Energetic, fun and lively, this locally-owned business is the place to go for freshly baked goods. Fans of this bakery and coffee shop know they originate from their first location in mountainous Boone, NC. Known for their organic coffee beans and locally sourced ingredients, both locations serve up hearty delicious baked goods and good strong coffee.

This bakery stays busy, especially in the morning with a steady stream of solo coffee drinkers with laptops, couples reading books together and families with small children.

The interior is invitingly rustic with industrial accents. Pine floors, unfinished brick walls, interesting ceilings and exposed air ducts with the de rigeur coffeehouse music playing in the background.

Customers can see the baking being done behind the counters early in the morning, and the Stick Boy crew are a fun, friendly bunch. You can tell they enjoy their work.

Locally roasted coffee beans and Stick Boy merchandise is available for purchase, just in case one decides they are not in the market for scones, cookies, freshly baked loaves of bread, or biscuits. The menu changes periodically so frequent customers can always find something new to try.

With only six tables in the smallish dining area, seating can be at a premium during the busiest of hours, however, there are a few tables outside, so you can always grab your goodies to go.

Stick Boy is located in pedestrian-friendly historic Fuquay in a repurposed auto parts store. Lots of historic charm in this area, good food and drink make this bakery one of our favorite places to visit in Fuquay-Varina.

Stick Boy Bakery is located at 127 South Main Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC. They are open Monday – Friday, 6 am to 6:30 pm and Saturday 7 am to 5:30 pm. They are closed on Sundays.
