45th Annual Spotsylvania County Christmas Parade 2022
by Staff Writer
There’s nothing like a small town Christmas parade to jumpstart the holiday season and get you in the mood for the season.
The 45th Annual Spotsylvania Christmas Parade was held this past weekend on a sunny but chilly and sometimes windy Saturday,
The theme was Cartoon Christmas, and several Grinches were sighted, along with the Peanuts Gang, characters from Frozen and other beloved characters.
The popular parade was held on December 1st at 1 pm and was well attended as crowds lined the parade route beginning at Spotsylvania Middle School and finishing past the Spotsylvania Courthouse Village.
Spotsylvania County is notable for the many major battles located within its boundaries during the Civil War, including the Battle of Chancellorsville, Battle of the Wilderness, Battle of Fredericksburg, and Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. Additionally, General Stonewall Jackson was shot and mortally wounded by friendly fire in Spotsylvania County during the Battle of Chancellorsville. There is a lot of Civil War history in this county, and you can find many historical sites to visit and Civil War historical trails to follow.
Vendors sold popcorn, hot chocolate, pizza and burgers to the crowd goers who watched bands, dance troupes, tractors, floats, horses and more march by. Children were delighted to receive candy given out by many of the parade participants, and of course Santa made an appearance at the end of the parde.
One of several dance troupes in the parade, this group of college students provided upbeat music and a fun dance routine.
One of the highlights of the event was the long line of large, noisy tractors that rolled down the parade route.
