Dinner At Chuck’s Burgers In Raleigh, NC

As if you needed another reason to venture into downtown Raleigh, I’m about to give you one more. Ashley Christensen is an award-winning chef, located in Raleigh and she owns five restaurants and bars scattered around downtown. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to visit one of her restaurants, Chuck’s Burgers.

Conveniently located at 237 South Wilmington Street, between a parking deck and Beasley’s Chicken and Honey, is another one of Ashley Christensen’s Restaurants. Not sure if it was our lucky day or if people just devour the food, but it didn’t take more than five minutes for the hostess to seat us.

Our server immediately greeted us all with glasses of water, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to order one of their boozy milkshakes as my other drink- a salted caramel milkshake with bourbon. It was between that and a Mexican Hot Chocolate, a very tough decision.

While the food menu is relatively small, the possibilities are endless with the variety of toppings and sauces they offer. You can choose from one of their Signature Burgers or create your own, and they offer a meat or veggie patty. I went for the Green Jacket, with a veggie patty. The Green Jacket burger had poblano pimento cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickle, and the veggie patty, made with sweet potato, was full of flavor.

Of course, I can’t go to a burger restaurant without bringing some meat eaters along with me. Luckily, my parents are always down to give me their opinions on food. My dad ordered the Dirty South, which had smoked pork chili, tobacco onions, roasted tomato slaw, cheddar, and yellow mustard. And, his opinion? Very tasty. The mustard and slaw were a perfect complement to the sandwich. My mom opted for an item on the Not Burgers section of the menu, the Chicken Salad Sandwich, which had chicken, lettuce and tomato on a potato bun, and she didn’t leave one bite behind.

And, you can’t have burgers without fries. Everything on the menu is à la carte, so we ordered two servings of fries for our group of four. With each order of fries, you can choose two sauces; we picked the Bourbon Cheer Wine BBQ, Comeback Sauce, Malt Vinegar Aioli, and Roasted Garlic Aioli. The Comeback Sauce, which is made with horseradish and sriracha mayo, was definitely a hit.

Overall, I’d say my family and I will be making another appearance in Chuck’s Burgers. It’s the perfect spot with friends, family or your date.

Chuck’s Burgers is open Sunday-Wednesday from 11:30AM-10:00PM and Thursday- Saturday from 11:30AM-12:00AM.
