Get Ready For Ooey Gooey S’mores In Four Easy Steps
by Staff Writer
Do you have memories of making s’more in the fall? Maybe at a camp or in your backyard on a crisp autumn night?
Making s’mores can be a sweet reminder of past evenings with family and friends, but it can also be the beginning of new traditions around a bonfire, the backyard fire pit, or at the beach on a cool night.
The question is: do you know how to make s’mores? Sure it’s simple and you probably already know but we thought we’d share the steps here again. Just in case.
But first a little history. You know s’mores originated with the Girl Scouts of America, right?
S’more History

The first time the recipe for s’mores appeared in print was in 1927. The Girl Scouts of America published a guidebook called Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. This guidebook provided tips for spending time in the woods with recipes for foods that could be easily prepared outdoors and cooked over an open fire.
Later, troop leader Loretta Scoot Crew was given the credit for the s’mores recipe, which called for 16 graham crackers, 16 marshmallows, and 8 bars of chocolate. According to the guide, the recipe directs readers to roast marshmallows on a stick over a campfire and press them between two graham crackers and a piece of a chocolate bar, like a sandwich.
And then when you toast marshmallows until they are gooey and melty and place them between graham crackers and add a chocolate bar, you get a tasty treat that is so good you will want ‘some more.’ Get it some more? Also, to paraphrase the recipe it states “while the recipe is called ‘some more,’ eating one is enough.
