Winchester Book Gallery In Winchester, Virginia

by Esme Addison

I recently visited the Winchester Book Gallery for a book signing. It’s my second time traveling to the cozy, small town nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. And it definitely won’t be my last.

The town itself is filled with history, architecture with character and story, and scenic views of mountains in the distance – my kind of small town.

The bookstore it located in Old Town Winchester, a walkable historic shopping district full of cute shops and bricked over boulevards. The closed off pedestrian mall really adds to the village feel of the area. And the vibe is vibrant, fun and friendly.

The day of my book signing for my new book, An Intrigue Of Witches the district was bustling with people. A young man with green hair sung lovely songs on his guitar, cute dogs roamed on leash with their owners and people sat outside at numerous restaurants creating a pleasant cacophony of utensils clinking against plates blended with the soft blur of chatter.

The day was lovely. Sunny. Cloudless blue skies. And moderate temps in the low 80’s. Just the kind of day for being outside with friends and family.

And the book store? Even it has history. This cozy shop has been providing books, cards and other bookish gifts to the community for over 50 years.

Winchester Book Gallery is a reflection of its surrounding. Bursting with books. Cool music flowing from speakers. Bright and airy. Cozy but large enough to have a story for every reader.

The co-owner, Christine Patrick and her staff could not have been more friendly, and knew most of the customers that visited while I was there. Her customer base was so diverse – all ages, colors and cultures.

I saw many families come in together, parents and children – and they all left with books. I love seeing families shopping for and buying books together. It reminds me of the trips I use to take with my father to the book store. Trips that fostered my love of reading and bookshops.

And I love how supportive of authors they are – check their events page. They offer author events on-site and off. As the only book store in the area, they really foster a love of reading and literacy in their community.

It’s the kind of bookstore you want to visit and just…stay awhile.

The Winchester Book Gallery is located at 7 N Loudoun St, Winchester. Learn more at Winchester Book Gallery.
