Just when I thought I knew of all the best spots to grab a beer around downtown Raleigh, I ventured a little further down West North Street to find Little City Brewing + Provisions, a hidden gem of a brewery.
Pull up a seat, and stay a while is written on the window outside, and that’s exactly what I wanted to do when I entered the bar. Whether it was the welcoming, homey atmosphere or the smell of the free popcorn, it didn’t take long for me to make myself comfortable.
The inside of the brewery is a beautiful space, trendy with its industrial-chic decor and plenty of seating. Little City offers beer, wine and cocktails, they have a popcorn machine stocked with an array of seasonings in the back, and a stack of board games in the corner. Everything about this place was calling my name.
After I grabbed myself a bag of popcorn and sprinkled it with the ranch dressing seasoning, it was time to check out the drink menu.
Being a huge IPA fan, I was immediately drawn to the Dead End Double IPA. However, I decided to start off with a sample of the Local Icon Lager since it was on a 4$ special that day. Not overwhelmingly impressed with the lager, I really switched things up when I impulsively ordered the Plethora Pomegranate, a sour beer. And it did not disappoint. Crisp, refreshing and pink, it might be my new drink of choice now that the sun is, hopefully, deciding to stay out.
But, for my Lager fans out there, my cousin went with the Local Icon, and finished every last drop. She also did not hesitate to help me finish off my second glass of the Plethora Pomegranate Sour.
Little City Brewing brews their beer on site, and the brewing kettles can be seen through the window behind the bar, facing the outside. The exterior walls are all windows, filling the brewery with natural light. The bar offers two service bars and plenty of seating for groups big and small.
Little City Brewing is located at 400 West North Street, underneath the West Condominiums. It is open Monday – Thursday from 3 pm – 12 am, Friday from 3 pm – 2 am, Saturday from 12 pm – 2 am, and Sunday from 12 pm – 12 am.
